In New Jersey, the employer (through their insurance carrier) gets to dictate your medical care – meaning they can select the doctors you treat with. The carrier is also obligated to pay for all related costs to the authorized medical treatment. Should the authorized doctor keep you out of work for seven (7) or more days then you are generally entitled to temporary disability benefits which would represent 70% of your average weekly wage subject to yearly maximum and minimums. Lastly, once you have completed medical treatment, should you have suffered a functional loss as a result of the work injury, you may be entitled to a permanent disability award.
