Brian W. Shea, Esq.
Brian W. Shea joined the firm in March 2015 in an of counsel position to grow the workers’ compensation department. Mr. Shea spent the last three years working for a south Jersey insurance defense firm where he represented employers, municipalities, and numerous insurance carriers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims. Mr. Shea served close to five years as Senior Counsel with the New Jersey Department of Labor’s Office of Special Compensation Funds where he represented the Uninsured Employer’s Fund. In this position he was responsible for protecting the assets of a state trust fund that provides some workers’ compensation benefits to injured workers of employer’s who fail to have insurance. There Mr. Shea gained extensive experience in the handling of cancellation and other coverage issues of workers’ compensation policies and the interplay between the Workers’ Compensation Act and applicable criminal, bankruptcy and disability laws.
Mr. Shea is a graduate of James Madison University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, and his Juris Doctorate from Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware. At Widener, Mr. Shea was a member of the Moe Levine Trial Advocacy Honor Society, captain and president of the Widener Law Rugby Club and served two terms as the school’s American Bar Association representative. Mr. Shea completed his educational career earning his LL.M. in taxation at Boston University School of Law while also interning at the Massachusetts Department of Revenue in their corporate tax litigation department.
Currently, Mr. Shea resides in Mercer County and is a member of the Justice James H. Coleman, Jr. New Jersey Workers Compensation American Inn of Court, trustee of the Mercer County Bar Association, member of the New Jersey Workers’ Compensation Centennial Committee and named a 2009, 2013 and 2016 New Jersey Rising Star attorney by Super Lawyer Magazine.
